Embed an automated issue summary

Use an Advanced Issue Macro to embed an automated summary of issues. You can customise which fields are summarised, how the information is displayed and how columns are ordered.

Start by adding an Advanced Issue Macro to a page or blog. On the issue selection modal, pick one or more issues then click Select fields.

From the field selection view, click Summarise issues from the view options at the bottom of the modal. This will switch the preview to display the selected issues as a summary.

Issue selection modal showing summarised issues

You can edit the fields shown as normal, adding fields from the Add a field selector and reordering fields by clicking and dragging the field in the fields list.

Each field corresponds to one column in the table. Fields are shown as a summary, based on the field type in question. By default fields that consist of pre-defined categories (like ‘Status’ and ‘Labels’) are grouped by value, number and progress fields are summed, and date/datetime fields are shown as a range. Anything else simply displays the number of non-empty values across the issues selected.

As field values are modified in Jira, the embedded issue summary will automatically update to show a summary of the latest values.

Here we have selected a variety of field types to demonstrate the different ways that data is summarised by default.

Multiple field types summarised

To configure the way each field type is summarised, click Options next to the view controls. This expands a set of controls to adjust the way summaries are shown.

Summarisation options

Here we have modified the summarisation options to show different information for the same fields selected in the example above. When you have finished configuring fields, click Insert to embed the issue summary into Confluence.
